The LOK Balls are a special occasion for socializing. Clients of the LOK association and all organizations in Vienna that provide support are invited to this grand celebration. Personal care and support in everyday life / The offer of personal care and support in everyday life is aimed at people with mental illnesses who live in their own apartment and need support for a few hours at a time. The support provided is tailored to the individual needs of the people and can take many forms. Conversations between clients and support staff offer the time and space to get to know each other and develop ideas about what form the support can take. Personal support and assistance in daily life can include shared activities and conversations. The support workers come to the clients' homes or meet with them outside of their residences. Zitate Mitarbeiter*innen —— „Eine Klientin hat alle ihre sozialen Beziehungen eigentlich abgebrochen. In der Betreuung haben wir die meiste Zeit Karten gespielt, weil sie das so wollte und vorgeschlagen hat. Wir haben das auch dann schon hin und wieder hinterfragt, ob das sinnvoll ist und wir sind dabei geblieben, weil das die Klientin immer wieder machen wollte. Irgendwann, das hat zwei Jahre vielleicht gedauert, wo wir auch den Eindruck gehabt haben, dass es quasi so eine chronifizierte Depression ist, dass sich da vielleicht auch nicht mehr viel bewegen wird, hat sie begonnen, wieder ein bisschen raus zu gehen in das Stammlokal von früher. Das ist dann eben so weiter gegangen, dass sich das sehr stark verändert hat, wie sie sich verhalten hat und wie sie wirkt. Also sie hat jetzt wieder viele soziale Kontakte, geht tanzen und hilft regelmäßig in dem Stammlokal aus. Sie hat da ganz viele Bekanntschaften, hat da Leute besucht, also überhaupt nicht mehr depressiv, sondern meistens gut gelaunt und hat ich auf jeden Fall, für uns eigentlich überraschend, sehr zum Besseren entwickelt und wir haben sie gefragt, was denn da geholfen hat. Sie hat gemeint, es hat ihr sehr stark geholfen, dass wir da waren und sie gewusst hat, sie kann sich darauf verlassen, dass wir sie unterstützen, wenn irgendwas ist.“ —— „Für uns ist die Reflexion im Team ganz wichtig, damit die Betreuung auch wirklich den Personen individuell entspricht. Das ist immer so der Schlagsatz so wenig Betreuung wie möglich, so viel wie nötig. Es ist schon auch wichtig, die Selbständigkeit zu unterstützen. Wobei wir jetzt keine pädagogischen Ziele vorgeben, welche die Person annehmen muss. Ich glaube schon, dass wir auf die Klientinnen und Klienten stark eingehen und auf deren Bedürfnisse und Wünsche." —— Diesen Ruf des „Dranbleibens“ hat LOK auch zu Recht. Das finde ich auch ein besonderes Qualitätsmerkmal von LOK: wir bleiben noch an Board, wo andere längst nicht mehr an Board sind. Also das meine ich in unterschiedlichster Art und im Bezug auf die unterschiedlichsten und manchmal schwierigsten Situationen. —— Manchmal geht es halt viel um das Aushalten, Begleiten und Dasein. Das hört sich vielleicht immer so wenig an, aber letzten Endes ist das manchmal vielleicht sogar das Schwierigere, Anstrengende eigentlich. Ich denke mir, der Verein generell, aber auch ich sehe meinen Beruf eigentlich schon als sehr humanen Beruf, wo es um Menschlichkeit geht. —— „Wir arbeiten definitiv weniger über Vorgaben und Verbote, sondern viel mehr übers gemeinsame Ausverhandeln mit Bewohner*innen. Das ist manchmal anstrengend, aber auch lustvoll.“ —— „Die kleinen Betreuungsstrukturen und die viele Zeit, die für die Betreuungsbeziehung selbst zur Verfügung steht, geben die Möglichkeit sich gezielt auf die Bewohner*innen einzulassen, an Themen dran zu bleiben, Prozesse dicht zu begleiten und wesentlich mitzugestalten. Es gibt zwar auch Organisatorisches zu erledigen, der Schwerpunkt liegt aber ganz klar auf der gemeinsamen Gestaltung von haltgebenden Beziehungen. Es bleibt viel Zeit für gemeinsame Reflexionen, gemeinsame Unternehmungen und qualitätvoll gemeinsam gestaltete Zeit.“ —— „Also ich habe den Eindruck, dass LOK als Arbeitgeber wirklich eine Grundhaltung hat, dass ein Blick darauf gerichtet ist, was Mitarbeiter und Mitarbeiterinnen am besten unterstützt und was für sie hilfreich sein kann. Auch in Bezug auf Erfahren von Wertschätzung habe ich den Eindruck, dass das bei LOK sehr stark passiert. Ombudsman's Office / Since the beginning of 2020, LOK has had an internal ombudsman's office. A former EX-IN employee works for it. Clients can inform the ombudsman's office staff of their wishes, complaints, and suggestions concerning their care provided by LOK. Together, they will consider what can be done. These concerns will only be discussed with others with the client's consent. Clients can also contact the ombudsman's office anonymously. The ombudsman's office is independent and treats requests, complaints, and suggestions confidentially. The ombudsman's staff member visits clients regularly in their setting (group home, support center, employment project) so they can talk to him or her. At the organizational level, the ombudsman's office collaborates with quality management and is in contact with management and department heads to address structural issues.

Festivals and celebrations have been important events since the club's inception. People who often know little about each other meet. The festival offers the opportunity to learn more about one another. Often, no conversation is even necessary. Seeing each other, dancing together, laughing together – spontaneous and emotional interaction is allowed and encouraged at the celebration. Every 5-10 years, there are special annual celebrations marking the founding of the LOK association, its residential communities, and employment projects. The LOK Ball has been a major event for years, celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2020. Not only clients of the LOK association, but also clients of all support organizations in Vienna are invited to this grand celebration. Even those not receiving support services attend this successful party, which attracts up to 800 people . Since its inception, companies and individuals have financially supported the ball, making it possible. Guests are consistently delighted by the fantastic musical program. > Archive LOK Balls The Psyennale was first held in 2009, the 20th anniversary of the association, at the suggestion of clients. The film week was organized jointly by clients and staff in cooperation with the Top Kino cinema. The selection of films aimed to present a diverse picture of people in various states of mental distress. It addressed coping with everyday life, conflicts with their environment, and the questions: What is healthy? What is illness? The goal was to offer a different perspective on the topic of "mental illness" and thus contribute to destigmatization. The film week was repeated in 2012, 2015, and 2017, with 2017 being the last time to date. > Archive Psyennale

Open dialogue / "There is no single truth, and everyone is an expert" – Open dialogue within the LOK association The LOK association uses, among other methods, the Open Dialogue approach. This involves a type of dialogue in which all voices are heard and considered equal. This broadens perspectives and opens up diverse possibilities for action. The so-called network dialogue is about transparency and listening to different voices and perspectives in the moment. There is no judgment or know-it-all attitude; rather, the goal is to find a common language. The network dialogue is moderated by trained individuals. The aim is to listen respectfully to the feelings, needs, and viewpoints of all participants and to develop and implement solutions together through dialogue.
