Forest and Meadow Poem

For my nephew Nathanael:
The autumn forest glows in the sun—
Yellow, gold, and red—what sheer delight!
Amidst the leaves, quite still and quiet,
Nathanael awakens for his great journey.
How pleasant is the cool breeze,
And oh, how lovely—chestnuts in the meadow!
Suddenly, he sees a squirrel leap high,
And something swaying there among the branches.
Nathanael can scarcely trust his eyes—
Why, there hangs a colorful kite in the tree!
He thinks: "How can I set it free?
Ah, I’ll go to Samanta—how good it is to be her nephew!
For she loves the autumn just as much as I do,
And she would never leave me in the lurch!"
As he rode his bicycle to her place,
She told him a story of Nature’s grace.
And it goes like this:
In the meadow, in the meadow,
There lives little Liese.
Liese is a snail, you see,
And she dearly loves her hedge;
But stones lay blocking her path.
Then Aunt Samanta came walking along the lane.
She appeared like a good fairy,
And carried Liese back to the clover patch.
Then little Liese laughed:
"To me, Aunt Samanta may seem like a giant,
But she loves it dearly—this green meadow."
Now Nathanael, too—like the fairies and elves—
Wants to help Nature, the animals, and yes... the kite!
Samanta and Nathanael make a top-notch team.
And very soon, the little kite flies high in all its glory—
A testament to helpfulness.
Yes, born of a great friendship
Between Nathanael, Nature, and his aunt—
To whom he turned with such good will.
From Samanta
For my dear nephew Nathanael =)
